Privacy policy and data management.
Data controller
The controller responsible for the data collected on this site is the Caribbean Laboratory for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (LaCDIA), an internal research structure affiliated with the École Supérieure d'Infotronique d'Haïti (ESIH), a Haitian higher-education institution.

Data collected
- Contact form: name, email, message.
- Collaboration form: name, email, organization, project description.
- Newsletter: email address.
- Browsing: technical audience-measurement data (pages visited, referrer, device type), only after your consent — see the Cookie Policy.
This data is stored in our content management system (Sanity), which also holds the newsletter subscriber list, and, when configured, forwarded to our email service provider (Resend) to notify us of requests and confirm newsletter unsubscriptions.
Purposes and legal basis
This data is used exclusively to respond to contact or collaboration requests, manage newsletter mailings and, with your consent, measure site audience. Processing is based on the explicit consent given when submitting each form or when accepting audience-measurement cookies.
Recipients and processors
Data is accessible to LaCDIA staff authorized to handle requests, as well as to the following technical providers, to the extent necessary to perform their services: Sanity (content hosting, form submissions, and the newsletter subscriber list), Vercel (site hosting), Resend (notification and confirmation email delivery) and, only after your consent, our audience-measurement tool (Matomo or Google Analytics depending on the active configuration). These providers use your data solely to perform their services and make no commercial use of it themselves.
Data transfers
Because our technical providers operate internationally, some data may be processed outside Haiti, notably in the United States. We only work with providers offering appropriate contractual security and confidentiality guarantees.
Retention period
Data from contact and collaboration forms is kept for 3 years from the last exchange, unless the relationship continues. Email addresses collected for the newsletter are kept for as long as you remain subscribed; after you unsubscribe, which you can do at any time via the link in each email, the address is marked as unsubscribed and retained in that state (rather than deleted immediately) to prevent accidental re-subscription, unless you request full deletion by contacting contact@lacdia.org. Audience-measurement data is kept for a maximum of 13 months; the cookie consent choice is kept for 6 months (see the Cookie Policy).
Data security
LaCDIA implements reasonable security measures to protect data processed on this site: access restricted to authorized personnel, hosting with recognized providers, and monitoring of security updates. As no transmission over the Internet is entirely risk-free, these measures do not constitute an absolute guarantee.
Your rights
You have the right to access, rectify, delete, and object to the processing of your data, as well as the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You can exercise these rights by writing to contact@lacdia.org or via the contact form. For the newsletter, you can unsubscribe immediately via the link in each email. For audience-measurement cookies, you can change your choice at any time via the "Manage cookie settings" link at the bottom of each page.
Applicable legal framework
Haiti does not currently have a general law dedicated to personal data protection or an independent supervisory authority. The processing of personal data is currently governed by the Decree of 15 May 2018 setting out rules on the protection of personal data, which notably requires the prior consent of the data subject, security and confidentiality of storage, restricted access to data, and a right of access and rectification when data is shared with a third party. A new Penal Code, adopted in June 2025, will introduce, once it takes effect on 1 January 2027, additional provisions on data breaches and cybercrime. Pending this strengthened framework, LaCDIA voluntarily applies, in managing this site, data protection principles inspired by recognized international standards (transparency, minimization, security, respect for individual rights), in line with the commitments set out in Article 51 of LaCDIA's institutional, scientific, and governance charter.
